Fujita<\/a>\u2019s most ambitious works to date has been acquired by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au\/collection\/works\/142.2014.a-h\/\">Art Gallery of New South Wale<\/a>s in Sydney, Australia, and now resides in their permanent collection. Titled&nbsp;<i>Southland Standoff<\/i>, the painting depicts a territorial battle among samurais, their armor adorned with the Southern California phone area codes&nbsp;\u201c213\u2033 (Los Angeles County) and&nbsp;\u201c714\u2033 (Orange County) as ornamental motifs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum is exhibiting the painting amongst their collection of Japanese antiquities, including samurai armor, swords and wood block prints. This pairing of a contemporary work with objects from the past is part of their ongoing exhibition series <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au\/exhibitions\/conversations\/\">Conversations through the Asian Collections<\/a><\/i>, an initiative to foster dialogue between the old and the new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although <i>Southland Standoff<\/i> is currently on view in Australia, the work will travel back to Los Angeles for its inclusion in Fujita\u2019s upcoming L.A. Louver exhibition <i>Warriors, Ghosts and Ancient Gods of the Pacific<\/i>&nbsp;\u2013 opening this May 2015.
