Louver\u2019s 1979 exhibition \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/then.cfm?SortOrder=ASC&amp;searchText=this%20knot%20of%20life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This Knot of Life<\/a>.\u201d In that show, we examined the work of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/hockney_bio_60s.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Hockney<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/kossoff.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leon Kossoff<\/a>, Lucien Freud, Euan Uglow and Frank Auerbach, among others, in an early period of their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now nearly thirty years later,&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/haunchofvenison.com\/exhibitions\/current\/the_mystery_of_appearance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Mystery of Appearance<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;gives notice to those same artists, as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/2\/c0ae4350-200e-11e1-8462-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1g4Qw7ATt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jackie Wullschlager<\/a>&nbsp;states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>This is a revelatory historical show that, most importantly, engages with painting as a continuous, living, joyful mystery \u2013 turning on, as Bacon asked, \u201chow can appearance be made. I know it can be illustrated, I know it can be photographed.
