{"id":2358,"date":"2012-08-29T21:58:00","date_gmt":"2012-08-29T21:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/index.php\/2012\/08\/29\/13th-international-architecture-exhibition-venice\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T17:22:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T17:22:21","slug":"13th-international-architecture-exhibition-venice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/13th-international-architecture-exhibition-venice","title":{"rendered":"13th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-orig-height=\"360\" data-orig-width=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/10f4ade3d1cb8c266e31d84cd584f150\/9ac3a76c084dfecc-9a\/s540x810\/f623956467cf1804f3fba620afaee4d466990a3d.jpg\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Today marks the opening day of \u201cCommon Ground,\u201d the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.labiennale.org\/en\/architecture\/\">13th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale<\/a>, on view through 25 November 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Directed by London-based architect, Sir David Alan Chipperfield, \u201cCommon Ground\u201d consists&nbsp;of a single exhibition staged throughout the Central Pavilion at the Giardini and the Arsenale, and comprises of over 69 projects&nbsp;by architects, photographers, artists, critics and scholars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this year\u2019s exhibition, Eric Parry Architects is featuring artists\u2019 projects by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/deacon_bio.html\">Richard Deacon<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/index.html\">Shirazeh Houshiary<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We explore the radical potential of the collaboration between artist and architect in two recent projects in the City of Westminster, London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At St James\u2019s Gateway on Piccadilly, we are collaborating with sculptor Richard Deacon, who has created a cornice integrated into the new facade. Formed of 39 individual coloured ceramic elements, the 25m (92 ft) artwork echoes the exuberance and activity of nearby Piccadilly Circus and is represented at the Biennale with two full-scale sections and a model of part of the building elevation at a scale of 1:3 [illustrated in the above image to the right].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also present our work at St Martin-in-the Fields, one of the most complex developments of its kind undertaken in London in many years, and in particular our collaboration with the artist Shirazeh Houshiary on the remarkable new east window, a central element of the practice\u2019s refurbishment of the historic church and one which creates a strong visual presence both inside and outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2013 Eric Parry (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/haworth-tompkins-lynch-architects-and-eric-parry-architects-working-within-the-peculiarity-of-london\/8634446.article\">via&nbsp;<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/haworth-tompkins-lynch-architects-and-eric-parry-architects-working-within-the-peculiarity-of-london\/8634446.article\">www.architectsjournal.co.uk<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lalouver.com\/post\/30048955108\/shirazeh-houshiary-st-martin-in-the-fields#.UD6MbkKhBac\">Shirazeh Houshiary east window at St. Martin in the Fields<\/a> has been fully realized, the Richard Deacon cornice facade for St. James\u2019s Gateway is projected to be finished in 2013.
