Originating at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lalouver.com\/post\/18140022644\/the-crowds-are-still-packing-into-david-hockney#.UIsuSWk-tU0\">Royal Academy, UK<\/a> (January 29 - April 9, 2012), the exhibition then traveled to the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lalouver.com\/post\/23134352908\/gallery-director-kimberly-davis-with-david-hockney-in#.UIsvM2k-tU0\">Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao\u00a0<\/a>(May 14 - September 30, 2012), and finally culminates at the Museum Ludwig on the last leg of its European tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized tmblr-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"335\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5606\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image-1.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image-1-300x201.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In correlation with the exhibition opening, David Hockney contributed an article in the Financial Times. Titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/e613f3d2-1b9a-11e2-ab87-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2AR8otrqG\">\u201cThe media has lost its perspective,\u201d <\/a>Hockney discusses the changing landscape of visual and mass media, by dissecting its historical origins and questioning its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5605\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image.jpeg 250w, https:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/image-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not a historian, nor even an art historian, but I have an interest in depiction and therefore a history of pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twelve years ago I wrote a book \u2013&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thamesandhudson.com\/9780500286388.html\">Secret Knowledge<\/a><\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 about the influence of technology on picture-making. Some art historians supported me, a few attacked it, but most ignored it, perhaps hoping it would go away. In the years since, I have become more convinced that we are witnessing a fundamental change in picture-making. This has far-reaching consequences for the media and the way we perceive the world.
