The <a href=\"http:\/\/archivesofamericanart.tumblr.com\/post\/39568298848\/whats-new-in-our-image-gallery-these-punched\">Archives of American Art<\/a> just shared these IBM punch cards utilized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/hammersley_bio_40s.html\">Frederick Hammersley<\/a> to create computer drawings in 1969, during his time teaching at the University of New Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will be mounting an exhibition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lalouver.com\/html\/gallery-history-images\/press-releases\/frederick-Hammersley-Computer-Drawings-press-release.pdf\">Hammersley\u2019s computer drawings from this time period<\/a>, opening on January 17 \u2013 just a few weeks away!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition, which includes foreword by Elizabeth East, original text by Frederick Hammersley (first published by&nbsp;<em>Leonardo<\/em> magazine in 1969), as well as over 20 computer drawings reproduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/archivesofamericanart.tumblr.com\/post\/39568298848\/whats-new-in-our-image-gallery-these-punched\">archivesofamericanart<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s new in our&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaa.si.edu\/collections\/images\">image gallery<\/a>: these punched cards from the University of New Mexico which contain a code for making art by Frederick Hammersley. Such a fantastic piece of ephemera from the very early days of computing.
