We recently caught up with visual artist\/musician\/writer Terry Allen, who shared his top music picks, that are as diverse as the work he makes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comprised of soundtracks, compilations, and what he calls \u201csound sprawls,\u201d you might expect to hear this playlist seeping through the walls of his studio: \u201cI\u2019ve been listening, piece and part, recently to [this music] while working in my studio, to help in building ideas for a new body of work I\u2019m just beginning, tentatively called FUTURISM (IN REVERSE).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of his choices may surprise you \u2013 but then again, it\u2019s Terry Allen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yPDZTrdbLwE\">GRIZZLY MAN: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Soundtrack (composed and performed by Richard Thomas) for Werner Herzog\u2019s movie about the guy who lived with bears in Alaska and gets eaten by one. Get the DVD of the movie that also includes a documentary of the live sessions recording music for the soundtrack. Great double feature.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xsVurWv-z-w\">THE TARANTINO CONNECTION<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Songs Tarantino has used in movies with fast mouth monologues in between on the importance of his music and how he prepares to write a screenplay. Among others, includes songs by: The Blasters, Dick Dale &amp; His Del Tones, Charlie Sexton, Urge Overkill, Leonard Cohen, The Mavericks, Burl Ives, Chuck Berry, Steelers Wheel, etc.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IryF_3bkK3g\">AFRO CELT SOUND SYSTEM:<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IryF_3bkK3g\">Volume 1 Sound Music<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Drums and bagpipes gone out of Africa and slammed into Ireland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.last.fm\/music\/Reza+Derakshani\/Reza+-+Ray+of+the+Wine\">REZA RAY OF THE WINE:&nbsp;Music by Reza Derakshami, produced by John Densmore, ex-drummer for The Doors<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Iranian groove stringed Kamanche, bass, shakers, vocals and even a wicked didgerido.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_HQPXqpzc7k\">SUPER BASS 2: Ray Brown, John Clayton and Christian McBride<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Great bass players playing together live at the Blue Note in NY.
