R.B. Kitaj<\/a> began his paintings with drawing. An integral part of his practice, the presence of drawing became increasingly apparent in his later works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We get a glimpse into Kitaj\u2019s process in the painting Los Angeles No. 24 (Nose to Nose)<\/em>, 2003 (featured above). Viewing the work in stages, the line remains constant throughout the painting\u2019s progression, even while layers of color build on the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
