Louver, <a href=\"http:\/\/lalouver.com\/exhibition.cfm?tExhibition_id=1341\">Ben Jackel:&nbsp;<i>Reign of Fire<\/i><\/a>, exquisitely rendered clay and wooden sculptures of warfare weaponry; and <a href=\"http:\/\/lalouver.com\/exhibition.cfm?tExhibition_id=1342\">Kienholz:&nbsp;<i>The Jungen, The Non War Memorial and Still Dead End Dead 1 &amp; 2<\/i><\/a>, a selection of assemblages that speak to the injustices of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While worlds apart in terms of artistic approach and generationally distant (Ben Jackel created his sculptures over the past two years. Ed and Nancy Kienholz\u2019s work were made between 1968-1987), both exhibitions are timely and poignant cogitations on war.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To celebrate these two shows and to enrich the dialogue they\u2019ve precipitated, we programmed a series of events that addressed the implications of war from different angles. See an overview of the events, along with video documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><b>What\u2019s at Stake? The Ethics of War&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Rory Cox (University of St. Andrews) and John R. Emery (UC Irvine) share their knowledge on the history of warfare, from medieval armory to modern drones, and the human implications that accompany technological developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What&#039;s At Stake? Louver hosted a screening of <i>The Songbird of Manzanar<\/i>, Cody Edison\u2019s telling portrait of Mary Kageyama Nomura whose gift of song provided rare solace for the internees at the Manzanar Internment Camp during the 1940s. Watch the conversation that followed the screening with Edison and Nomura, moderated by Academy Award nominated documentary filmmaker Renee Tajima-Pe\u00f1a (No M\u00e1s Beb\u00e9s, 2015).
