Described are the two bodies of works&nbsp;(Volksempf\u00e4ngers and&nbsp;The White Easels), that&nbsp;the&nbsp;Kienholzes produced in the mid-late \u201860s from their dual studio locations in Berlin, Germany and Hope, Idaho. Here\u2019s an excerpt:<em><br><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe bond between the White Easels and the Volksempf\u00e4nger series is one of formal and thematic understatement. The Kienholzes replicated not only the easel that they used in their Hope studio, but also the cinder-block wall behind it. An implied narrative can be drawn from the empty easel waiting to be filled. Wholly compelling in their own right, both series foreshadow the more restrained styles of the Kienholzes\u2019 large-scale tableaux to come.
