Gearing up for Charles Garabedian’s paintings and drawings

18 Aug 2015

We’re gearing up for a solo exhibition of Charles Garabedian’s recent paintings and drawings. Created over the past two years, many of the works are inspired by the artist’s continued interest in Greek mythology.

In this painting, the artist depicts the story of Electra, written by Greek playwright Sophocles. Titled The Sorrows of Electra (2015)Garabedian portrays Electra grief stricken and unconsolable after her father Agamemnon’s death at the hands of her mother Clytemnestra. Reunited with her brother Orestes, who was sent away as a child and returns unnoticed, together they plot their mother’s murder, to avenge their father’s death.

We’ll be posting more images of Garabedian’s latest works in the weeks leading up to his upcoming show. Charles Garabedian: Sacrifice for the Fleet opens on October 8, 2015 – mark your calendars!

We are also publishing a fully illustrated catalogue, with essay by Broad Art Foundation Assistant Curator, Ed Schad. Stay tuned for more details.
