Notes from the road with Elizabeth East

2 Aug 2012

Gallery director Elizabeth East recently traveled to Colorado and shares a few photos from her visit:

The Denver Art Museum

Joel Shapiro sculpture For Jennifer, 2007-2011. The 32-foot tall, bright blue sculpture is installed adjacent to the Hamilton Building of the Denver Art Museum (Clyfford Still Museum is in background)

Detail shot of Shapiro.  Behind left you can see the angles of the Denver Art Museum designed by Daniel Libeskind; behind right is the new Clyfford Still Museum designed by Brad Cloepfil, AIA, of Allied Works Architecture.

And just around the corner… Lao-Tzu, 1991-1994 by Mark di Suvero, which  dominates Acoma Plaza, between the Denver Public Library and the Denver Art Museum.

Onward:  the scenic drive between Denver and Aspen

The construction site of the new Aspen Art Museum.  Kay Rosen’s artwork:  PEEK/KEEP, 2012 wraps around the perimeter, while Mungo Thompson’s inflatable sculpture hovers above, evoking a certain sculpture recently installed a few miles east of L.A. Louver….
