Terry Allen’s Deer Sculptures, with their anthropomorphic bodily gestures, have assumed their lounging positions on the banks of the Scioto River since last September. Commissioned by the City of Columbus as permanent public sculptures, these anatomically-correct deers offer spectators a companionship as familiar strangers. In the process of creation, Allen derived the deer armatures from deer styrofoam forms he collected from professional taxidermists.
