Kienholz: Five Car Stud opened at the Fondazione Prada in Milan to a packed crowd eager to get a first glimpse of historic and seminal works by Edward and Nancy Kienholz. Among the works on view are the exhibition’s name sake, Five Car Stud (1969-1972), considered to be one of Ed’s most significant works. Other works include those created by both Ed and Nancy, such as The Caddy Court (1986–1987), a mobile assemblage that includes a van inserted between the front and back of a Cadillac; The Merry-Go-World or Begat by Chance and the Wonder Horse Trigger (1991–1994), a carousel transformed into a cosmic wheel of fate; and 76 J.C.s Led the Big Charade (1992–1994), one of the last works produced by the couple in which baby dolls, wagon parts and different cultural and historical depictions of Jesus Christ are transformed into crucifixes.
