Of the six sculptures currently on view in our 2nd floor group show…

29 May 2015

Of the six sculptures currently on view in our 2nd floor group show, this work by Joel Shapiro is the only one that suspends from the ceiling. Floating in mid air, the wooden forms, selectively colored and joined at varying angles with exposed nails, convey a sense of movement and exuberance that transcends materiality.

“If you join stuff, you can only do so much. It’s more about the capricious moment of form coming together to become something else.” - Joel Shapiro

In 2013, Shapiro created an installation of suspended work that took over our entire main gallery. Click here to see images of the exhibition, accompanied with a video of Shapiro discussing his work.

Other artist included in the 2nd floor show include Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon, Peter Shelton, Sui Jianguo and Matt Wedel – on view at L.A. Louver through July 2, 2015.
