Another ceramic sculpture by Matt Wedel, which will be on view in his forthcoming exhibition Peaceable Kingdom – opening at L.A. Louver on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 6-8pm.

In this new body of work, there is an evident shift towards abstraction. Color is more loosely applied, and is less aligned with form compared to earlier sculptures. The layered application of color is especially notable in a series of free-standing heads, their vague facial attributes obscured by muddled coloration, with hints of eyes, noses and mouths etched directly into the glaze.
