Alison Saar discussing works from LACMA’s permanent collection

18 Aug 2016

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has released a new video series on their website that feature different artists discussing works from their permanent collection. Alison Saar was invited to participate and chose to speak about Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s sculpture “Dancer with Necklace,” 1910.

As you’ll see in the video, Kirchner’s sculpture had a profound influence on Saar, so much so that she created two wooden sculptures in response to his work. “Silttown Shimmy” on the left was included in her recent exhibition at L.A. Louver titled “Silt, Soot and Smut,” and “Black Bottom Stomp” featured right will be in her upcoming solo show at Lafayette College in the fall.
