Richard Deacon’s latest commission

6 Mar 2013

Richard Deacon’s latest commission was revealed today in one of London’s most famous tourist attractions, Piccadilly Square. But don’t expect to see a free-standing sculpture, instead look to the architecture. In collaboration with Eric Parry Architects, Deacon created an intricate cornice piece emblazoned with a cacophony of colors, for the facade of Eagle Place – a joint residential and retail building located just off of Piccadilly Circus.

“I’ve never done anything like this, integrating a sculpture with a building,” says Deacon. “I think it looks fantastic, and it’s going to be in a million tourist photos of Piccadilly Circus. The forms within the cornice are like folding geometry, but with a kind of softness.”

These images reflect the building facade in progress, more images of the final reveal to come…
