Rogue Wave 2013 artist Farrah Karapetian has unveiled her recent installation in Flint, Michigan – the infamous derelict city that once flourished as the birthplace of General Motors.

Utilizing her elaborately staged photograms, Karapetian reimagines abandoned signage as a sculptural structure to house images made with JobCorps students performing their trades. The work honors the efforts these youth are making towards improving their lives as it also more broadly honors the rebuilding of the city of Flint, Michigan.

Karapetian explains the development of her practice and her photogram approach in this 2012 Artforum article.

See work like this and more in our upcoming Rogue Wave 2013 group exhibition, opening at L.A. Louver on July 18th.
