An extensive feature on the artwork of Tom Wudl

19 May 2014

Tricycle Magazine, the widely-read Buddhist publication, included an extensive feature on the artwork of Tom Wudl in their most recent issue. Focusing on the intricately meticulous imagery inspired by the Flower Ornament Scripture (Avatamsaka Sutra), the magazine details the symbolism represented in the seductive flowers, faceted jewels and elaborate patterns often seen in Wudl’s paintings and drawings.

A portion of the article is accessible online for non-subscribers, but it’s worth picking up a copy for the complete text, accompanied by gorgeous reproductions.

The image above is a small detail of a larger work titled Unattached, Unbound, Liberated Kindness (2013), which was created over the course of 4 years. See this work in progress in a concise video we produced of Tom Wudl in his studio.
